Thrifty White Pharmacy and RALI partner to distribute safe Drug Disposal Kits

(October 15, 2018) Thrifty White Pharmacy has received a donation of 8,000 safe drug disposal kits from the Rx Abuse Leadership Initiative (RALI). Thrifty White will distribute the kits to communities to assist with the disposal of unused opioids. RALI is a partnership between the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and other groups working to combat the opioid epidemic.

The pilot project will start with four stores in Grand Rapids, Bemidji, Brainerd, and Pierz. The effort will officially launch with a press conference at the Grand Rapids store on October 16.

The donation of 8,000 safe drug disposal kits is meant to provide an easy and effective way for Thrifty White customers to deactivate and dispose of unused prescriptions at home before they can be diverted to abuse.

“This public health crisis is too complex for any one group to solve alone and PhRMA is committed to doing our part to bring forth a comprehensive solution. Our partnership with Thrifty White, along with others we will be announcing in the coming weeks, is part of our broader, ongoing commitment to Minnesota communities and the initiatives they are implementing to help the individuals and families impacted,” said Linda Carroll-Shern, deputy vice president of PhRMA.
